Subject: Bangladesh Embassy in Paris commemorated the National Mourning Day-2017 on the 42nd death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

Bangladesh Embassy in Paris commemorated the National Mourning Day-2017 on the 42nd death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Tuesday, 15 August 2017 at the Embassy with due solemnity. As part of the day-long program, the National Flag of Bangladesh was hoisted at half-mast at the Embassy by Mr. M. Shahidul Islam, Ambassador of Bangladesh to France in the presence of Embassy officials and expatriate Bangladesh community in France. Observance of 1 minute silence showing respect to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the members of his family who were brutally killed in the early morning of 15th August 1975; placing flower bouquet to the portrait of the Father of the Nation, reciting from the Holy Quran; reading out of the Messages sent on the occasion by the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Foreign Minister and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh by the Ambassador of Bangladesh to France, Commercial Counsellor Mr. Firoz Uddin, First Secretary Ms. Anisa R. Amin and First Secretary Ms. Farhana Ahmed Chowdhury of the Embassy respectively took place with wide community participation.

In his address, the Ambassador called upon the officials of the Embassy and the expatriate Bangladeshi community in France to work relentlessly to materialize Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s vision of building Sonar Bangla that would ensure peace and prosperity, equity and justice, democracy and people’s empowerment. Referring to the Government’s zero tolerance policy on extremism and terrorism, the Ambassador called upon the expatriate Bangladeshis to exercise caution so that their children do not fall victim to wrong interpretation of Islam which might lead them to violent extremism and terrorism.

A good number of freedom fighters, political leaders, businessmen, socio-cultural activists, media personalities, women & children and leading personalities from the Bangladesh community attended the program. Independence awardee expatriate Artist Shahabuddin Ahmed delivered vote of thanks on behalf of Bangladesh community in France. In his speech Mr. Shahabuddin remembered his close interactions with Bangabandhu on different occasions highlighting Bangabandhu’s greatness and magnanimity as a human person. He urged the expatriate Bangladeshis to love the country with honesty, patriotism and tolerance to fulfill the dream of the Father of the Nation.

A special prayer session seeking Almighty Allah’s blessings for eternal peace of the soul of Bangabandhu and the other martyrs, and also for the peace and prosperity of the country, under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. After completion of the program, the participants were entertained with traditional Bangladeshi Tabarak.
