Subject: Bangladesh Embassy in Paris celebrated the 47th Independence & National Day-2017

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Paris celebrated the 47th Independence & National Day-2017 of Bangladesh with the participation of expatriate Bangladeshis staying in France with due solemnity and fervor on 26 March 2017 at the Embassy.

Bangladesh Ambassador to France Mr. M. Shahidul Islam hoisted the national flag at the Chancery in the presence of Bangladesh community members and Embassy officials. This was followed by recitation from the Holy Quran and observance of one minute silence showing respect to all the martyrs of the glorious Liberation War. Messages received on the occasion from the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Foreign Minister and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out by the Ambassador, Commercial Counsellor Md. Firoz Uddin, First Secretary Mrs. Anisa R. Amin, and First Secretary Ms. Farhana Ahmed Chowdhury respectively. 

In his remarks, the Ambassador paid tribute to the valiant freedom fighters, who made supreme sacrifice for the cause of the independence of Bangladesh in 1971. The Ambassador reiterated the clarion call by Hon’ble Prime Minister in materializing the dream of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to build “Sonar Bangla” and urged the Bangladeshi community in France to work unitedly under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

            A discussion meeting was held on this occasion which was moderated by Mr. Mohammad Hazrat Ali Khan, Counsellor and Head of Chancery of the Mission. Mr. Partha Pratim Majumder, recipient of Ekushey Padak and Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, spoke on behalf of the Bangladeshi community in France.  Mr. Benjeer Ahmed Selim, freedom fighter & senior politician spoke on behalf of freedom fighters and political stream of the Bangladeshi community in France. Both the speakers urged the expatriate Bangladeshis to love the country with honesty, patriotism and tolerance to fulfill the dream of the Father of the Nation. They stressed the need for unity among expatriate Bangladeshis in France to strengthen the hand of Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her effort to lead the country to peace, progress and prosperity.  

A good number of Freedom Fighters, political leaders, businessmen, socio-cultural activists, and media representatives from the Bangladeshi community in France attended the event. Among others, Mr. Jamirul Islam Miah (Freedom Fighter),  Architect Dr. Abu Sayeed Jamal, Mr. Sohrab Hossain Mridha, Mr. M. A. Kashem, Mr. Mohsin Uddin Khan Liton, Mr. Dilwar Hossain Koyes, Mr. Mojibur Rahman, Mr. Abdul Matin(Freedom Fighter), Mr. Forhad Hossain(Freedom Fighter), Ms. Nilufar Jahan Babli,  Mr. Shagor Khan, Syed Faisal Iqbal, Professor Apu Alam, Mr. Subrata Bhattacharia Shuvo, Mr. Mostafa Hassan,  Mr. Mizanur Rahman Sarker, Mr. Rana Chowdhury, Mr. Saiful Islam Khan Majid, Mr. Ali Azam Khan,  Mr. Amdadul Hoque Swapon, Mr. Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, Mr. Faisal Uddin, Mr. Akram Khan, Mr. Masud Hyder, Mr. Anwar Hossain  were present in the Program.

           A special prayer session seeking Almighty Allah’s blessings for eternal peace of the soul of Bangabandhu and the martyrs of the Liberation War as well as for the peace and prosperity of the country under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was led by the Imam of local mosque Hafej Md. Wahidur Rahman. After completion of the celebration, the participants were entertained with traditional Bangladeshi food. In addition to Bangladesh community, a number of French nationals were also present in the occasion. 

A separate Diplomatic Reception will be held on the occasion of the Independence and National Day on 27 March.
