Bangladesh Embassy in Paris observed the historic Mujibnagar Day on 17 April 2016 in a befitting manner at the Embassy marking the formation of Bangladesh's first Government that led the War of Liberation in 1971. Bangladesh Ambassador to France and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO Mr. M. Shahidul Islam hoisted the national flag in the morning at the Chancery. This was followed by recitation from the Holy Quran, observance of one minute silence showing respect to all the martyrs of the glorious liberation war, and reading out messages on the occasion from Hon’ble President and Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

A discussion meeting was held on the importance and significance of Muijbnagar Day, which was presided over by Ambassador M. Shahidul Islam. The discussants remembered the leadership of Bangabandhu that led to the creation of the independent and sovereign Bangladesh. They also paid rich tribute to the four national leaders namely Syed Nazrul Islam, Mr. Tajuddin Ahmed, Captain M. Mansur Ali and Mr. AHM Quamaruzzaman who made tremendous contribution to the independence of Bangladesh.

In his closing remarks Ambassador M. Shahidul Islam said that independence is the greatest achievement of the Bangalee nation. On the historic day, he hoped the people of Bangladesh and the young generation in particular would try to know the true history of Liberation War and take inspiration from it to sharpen their commitment and patriotism. He also encouraged the audience to visit Mujibnagar, a landmark in the history of Bangladesh. He urged the expatriate Bangladeshi nationals to engage themselves in building Bangladesh as a country free from hunger, poverty and illiteracy as envisioned by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

A special prayer session was held seeking Almighty Allah’s blessings for the eternal peace of the soul of Bangabandhu and the other martyrs and also for the peace and prosperity of the country, under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
