The week-long painting exhibition titled "Resilient Bangladesh: Living in Harmony with Nature" opened today at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

            Some 30 artworks by Bangladeshi artistes are on display at Miro Hall of UNESCO to depict the inherent resilience of the people of Bangladesh in the face of adverse nature in a riverine delta hit by floods, cyclone and tidal surge constantly. 

            The exhibition was jointly inaugurated by Mr Vladimir Ryabinin, Executive Secretary of IOC- UNESCO and M Shahidul Islam, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to UNESCO. Senator Jerome Durian from French Senate, President of Executive Board Ambassador Mohammad Sameh Amr of Egypt and Representative of Aga Khan Development Network attended the event. 

            The exibition has been supported by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of projecting positive image of the country aborad. 

            Prof Rafiqun Nabi while speaking on the occasion said the painting of Bangladesh has drawn heavily from the nature of Bangladesh. He added that "we will be happy if our artworks can help create global awareness of the imminent threat posed by climate change and the value of adaptation to climate change disruptions."

            Ambassadors and diplomats of different countries  including Angola, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Ethiopia,  Greece, India, Indonesia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Nigeria, Oman, South Korea, Sweden, Thailand, UK, USA were present at the inaugural ceremony. Renowned Bangladeshi painters Rafiqun Nabi, Shahbuddin Ahmed , Muniruzzaman, Shahadat Hossain, Mime artist Partha Pratim Majumder and Bangladeshi community leaders attended the event.

The exhibition will remain open for visitors till Friday 02 October 2015.
